Fab Florets Blushing Blog Hop The Proverbs 31 Woman is an awesome picture of the woman of God every one of us can be as we surrender to the Lordship of Christ and listen to and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit.  God shows us this woman as a picture of a well-rounded woman with a full life.  Isn't that what we desire?  There are many aspects to this virtuous woman, but I want to key in on Proverbs 31: 19-20 (NLT):

19  Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber.

20  She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy.

I take heart that as a crafter, I'm engaged in activities that the Proverbs 31 Woman is!  In her day, she spun thread and twisted fibers, using her God-given creativity, resourcefulness, and style to bring handmade items to her family as well as those in need.  In our modern world, not much has changed, really.  I seek out the best threads (ribbons!) and fibers (card stock!) to create things that will touch my world, bringing the tangible love of God to those I encounter.  Not only do I give of my own resources to physically feed the poor and needy, but I also take my time and talent, offer it up to God, and use it to send handmade cards like the one above to those that are poor in spirit and needy in their soul.

The simple gesture of sending a handmade card brings comfort and solace, encouragement and even words of wisdom to someone in need.  I pray as I sit down to create (copying someone else's creation is just as "creative." Solomon said in Proverbs 1: 10 Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new.) I make a handstamped card.  Then I pray about what words I will write inside the card, and I pray for the person I will give/mail it to.  After that, my card, my little gesture of kindness, my heartfelt words, go on their way.  And God uses them!  They do help the poor in spirit!  And they do bring a tangible expression of the love of Jesus to the needy soul.
