Dear Doily Sympathy Card for #GDP178

Global Design
I have a card for this week's Global Design Project 178 Sketch Challenge, #GDP178.  GDP issues a weekly challenge with some sort of creative prompt.  I love a good sketch, so here goes!

I created a quick and easy sympathy card with the new Country Floral Embossing Folder (free Sale-a-Bration Reward with a $50 order), special words in a beautiful font from Dear Doily Occasions Catalog photopolymer stamp set, and Tranquil Tide Velvet Ribbon.  Let me point out just a few things in my quick and easy sympathy card for #GDP178.

  • I love browns in sympathy cards.  They bring a somber tone but are much gentler than black.  Losing loved ones is hard, and a somber but not depressing mood is what I try to create in handmade sympathy cards.
  • Sponging ink on the Country Floral Embossing Folder really brings out the texture and adds richness without being flashy or showy–characteristics I eschew in handmade sympathy cards.
  • Velvet ribbon provides the perfect elegant, understated touch for my sympathy card.  I used Tranquil Tide Velvet ribbon, but Stampin' Up! velvet ribbon is also available in Rich Razzleberry, and that one is actually available right now as a free Sale-a-Bration item.

Having handmade sympathy cards on hand means I am prepared to offer comfort to those experiencing loss.  I hope you are inspired to build your stash of sympathy cards.  All products used in today's card are listed and linked below for your convenience.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

You can see lots of other great ideas using this same sketch here at the Global Design Project page.
