Catching Butterflies Handmade Card

Blog Hop-Trip AchieversWelcome to the January installment of Stampin' Up! Trip Achievers Blog Hop.  You are at Candy Rattray, sweetstamper.com, and the full list of linked and connected blogs are at the bottom of this post.  There is so much creativity shared to inspire you, particularly with January-June Mini Catalog and Sale-a-Bration NEW products.

Today's share is a card I created for my in-person monthly card class in San Antonio, TX and features the uber adorable Catching Butterflies stamp set which is a free Sale-a-Bration option when you place a $50 product order through February 28th.

catchingbutterfliesstampinupcandyrattrayLet me share a few things that help my Catching Butterflies handmade card work:

Color scheme!  Coastal Cabana and Gorgeous Grape are my main color palette with just a hint of Granny Apple Green for the grass and neutrals for the hair and butterfly net (Cinnamon Cider and Gray Granite).

Simply Marbleous Designer Series Paper (free with a $50 product order through February 28th) has 6 colors.  I opted for the Gorgeous Grape.  Each color has a light and dark side.  I used both for varying shades of Gorgeous Grape as well as variety of swirls.

Brushed Brass Butterflies are a new Mini Catalog embellishment and are really gorgeous.  They are just the right size/scale to work perfectly with the artwork in my main focal piece.

I used a bit of Petal Pink Blends on the girl's cheeks.  I like to do that when the people are drawn in a whimsical style as the girl in Catching Butterflies.

The greeting!  "Collecting sweet thoughts of you" is a truly charming greeting and will be used a LOT in my handmade cards.  It would be super cute on the inside as well:)

Flurry of butterflies for the inside of my card–I love this single stamp that I stamped twice on the inside.  Repetition of images helps bring cohesion to design, so these are perfect for the inside of my Catching Butterflies handmade card.

The single stamped butterfly on the front of my card was fussy cut and popped up with a single Mini Stampin' Dimensional and brushed with Wink of Stella.  It's the perfect little extra bit of lift and shine!
